You might remember my post about waiting for the light. I finally decided that I wouldn’t have access to my film developing equipment (stored at my Mom’s house) for awhile, so I sent a few sheets of film off to The Darkroom for developing. The resultant shot from that afternoon was one of the images that came back.
This is one of the first 8×10 shots in awhile where I feel like I got it enough right to include the whole frame. I’ve always liked the look of scanned large format film with the little tab areas where the guide rails of the film holder stop. It’s like a badge of honor when I don’t need to crop some mistake out and can include those in the image I present online or print. I still would have tweaked this one a little bit if I had to do it again but it’s not bad.
The one odd part I’m wondering about, though, is the ever so slight vignette showing up in all four corners. I have a pretty deep hood for the Series VIII filter adapter that I use with the Commercial Ektar and I’m wondering if it’s just a touch too deep. I don’t recall ever seeing this pop up before but I can’t think of what else would darken all four corners (I sometimes get two dark corners when I push the image circle limits of the Ektar a bit too far but that’s not the case here).
Meanwhile, there was some other fun stuff that came back from The Darkroom, so there will probably be some more film stuff coming up this week. Stay tuned to this channel!
