New Work: Boneset Neighbors

A bumblebee and an ailanthus webworm are seen on some tall boneset in a patch of Illinois tallgrass prairie on September 4th, 2021.

I’ve really enjoyed rediscovering the beauty Illinois’ tallgrass prairies since I’ve accepted an embraced what I can do photographically where I’m at on my path right now. New tools like an iPhone app called PictureThis have helped with plant identification and I’ve enjoyed learning about the flowering plants that I’ve admired before but never stopped to photograph and learn about.

I wish I had a little more depth of field in this shot but a steady wind blowing the boneset and moving insects made that almost impossible. This was the best frame I got of both insects. The webworm moth is a bit out of focus but it’s still sharp enough to show off its sharp haberdashery.

It’s the first one that I’ve seen! I’ve got a better photograph of it by itself that I plan to process and post, too. Neat looking insects!
