I’m going to postpone this week’s equipment journal post until a bit later in the week since it still needs quite a bit of work. Instead, I’ll present one of the shot’s from yesterday’s outing.
This is a shot of the lock and locktender’s house along the old I&M Canal in Channahon, Illinois. The canal served as a link from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River. It opened in 1848 and did a lot to put Chicago on the map as the transportation hub that it would become in the 19th century.
Today, the Canal serves other purposes. It’s a major recreational getaway for the denizens of Illinois. The canal’s mule paths have become trails. Anglers are almost always around someplace around the canal. One can even still take a ride on a mule pulled canal boat in LaSalle, IL (in less socially distant times, of course).
As you saw in yesterday’s post, I had the 8×10 set up here. I don’t know that that shot will come out as well as I’m hoping for. I would have liked to use a wider angle lens but the Zeiss Protar that I use apparently doesn’t have the 49mm filter threads that I thought it did. It seems like it’s just under 49mm. I really needed a polarizer for the shot, so I found another composition with the 12″ Commercial Ektar that I don’t think I like as much. I’ll have to see what the film looks like when it gets developed. In the meantime, I need to do some research to see what size filter thread is on the Protar…
