Another shot from last night’s trip to the cemetery near where I live. Cemeteries are full of symbolism. If you take a trip to someplace like Graceland Cemetery, you’ll be completely surrounded by all manner of symbolic gravestones and tombs. However, certain symbolic images show up in almost every cemetery. Crosses, Stars of David and other markers of faith. Obelisks. Angels. Lambs are often used for the graves of children.
One simple but poignant symbol that is among this latter category that can be found at almost any cemetery is a bench. The idea of rest is appealing when pondering what awaits us as we shuffle off this mortal coil. I find benches like this one that are accompanied by simple but effective landscaping like this row of trees to be especially effective. This may not be a terribly exciting photo but I really like the emotions it conveys.
