Nikon Z7, Sigma 400mm f5.6 Apo Telemacro on FTZ Adapter
We went to the Brookfield Zoo yesterday afternoon and I brought along my Sigma 400mm f5.6 Apo Telemacro because I hadn’t used it in awhile. It’s a little dodgy on the Z7 because it’s a “screwdriver tip”focusing lens, similar to a Nikon AF-D and won’t autofocus on the FTZ adapter. It also has a short focus throw, so it can be tough to get focus nailed precisely. Still, when it works, the results are stunning. Lens nerd AdamT on the DPReview fora once said this was equal to or better than the Canon EF 400mm f5.6L. I had one of those years ago and loved it. The Sigma is more quirky but optically just as good. It’s always fun to find a forgotten optical gem and get a great deal on it. This certainly falls into that category for me.
